Yes, definitely. Guild Wars 2 hasn't even started closed beta, and at the rate development is going, I don't expect the game to be released until Q2 or even Q3 2012. You'll easily get your money's worth with the Trilogy. It gives you 3 full campaigns to play through... including Prophecies, which is the original story of Tyria (250 years before GW2, including the Humans vs Charr conflict). And if you add the Eye of the North expansion (for another $10) you get another cross-over story to GW2 (introducing the Norn and Asura races). Plus, with EOTN you can unlock a number of item rewards for GW2, based on achievements inm GW1. There's still lots of people who are playing GW1 for exactly that purpose... and you should still have enough time to unlock all these item rewards (or, if you don't play that much, at least some).
In addition, the GW1 Live Team is still releasing game updates once in a while, including more crossover stories playing in the 250 years between GW1 and GW2... and they have said that they will keep the servers running and that will not stop supporting the game as long as there are enough people playing GW1. So even after GW2 is released, you could still continue to develop your character in GW2, if you'd want to...
However, do note that GW1 is a completely different game than GW2, in lots of aspects. ArenaNet doesn't even call GW1 a true mmo because it is mostly instanced (GW2 WILL be a true mmo).
And one last piece of advise... if you do buy the trilogy, I recommend starting with the Nightfall campaign, as that has the best tutorial for new players and it has heroes (customizable companions), which can make life considerably easier for you.Is guild wars 1 still worth getting?
Not at all... Try WoW instead.
